Now, just six years removed from Windows 10 being announced as the “final” OS, Windows 11 arrived seemingly out of the blue. So, what does this mean?
Migrations Are Here to Stay
Despite Windows 10 being the “final” operating system in the eyes of IT teams, it didn’t truly mean the end of migrations. We saw Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (formerly Windows Virtual Desktop) and Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session emerge, requiring teams to rethink application packaging and delivery.
Whether Windows 11 continues to be optimized in perpetuity or Windows 12 is rolled out in a decade, Microsoft has demonstrated a commitment to continuously hardening its services. Naturally, we can assume they will continue to update it at an accelerated rate. Ultimately, enterprises need to future-proof their applications to seamlessly adopt emerging technologies and continue leveraging existing IT investments.
The Microsoft Store is Being Democratized
Previously, publishers had to leverage App-V or MSIX to make their applications available in the Microsoft Store. Now, virtually any packaging technology can be leveraged to publish them (Microsoft, 2021).[1]

This is great news for publishers that leverage Cloudpaging to package their applications. If a given application has been Cloudpaged, it can now be published to the Microsoft Store. It’s also important to note these store updates apply to both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Win32 Applications Will Live On
Microsoft announced Win32 applications will be able to run natively on Windows 11. The great news is that modern solutions, such as the Microsoft Store, will be providing support for them. This means new ways of accessing and running legacy applications. However, this also means they will create challenges we haven’t experienced before.
While it’s great there is a new deployment mechanism, if new technology hasn’t help you run them yet issues with Win32 on modern OS will persist. That’s where Cloudpaging comes into play.
